Spikes Defeat Keys in Overtime Thriller

Last night, the State College Spikes helped keep their first-half hopes alive, winning in overtime. The final score after 9 innings was 4-4. Here’s how it happened:

EARLY STRUGGLES

The Keys wasted no time, as RF Irvin Weems hit a triple to start the game. A groundout from 2B Brody Fahr scored Weems from third to take the first run of the game. Keys’ DH Jadyn Fielder added on to the early lead with a solo home run to lead off the top of the 3rd inning.

CHIPPING AWAY

The bottom of the 3rd saw the Spikes tie the game with a Hayden Moore RBI single and a Cameron Bufford RBI fielder’s choice. The Spikes took their lone lead of the game with a Carson Luna RBI triple and a Max Bushyhead RBI single in the bottom of the 4th inning. After a solo home run from Irvin Weems in the top of the 7th and an RBI sac fly from C Irvin Escobar, the Spikes and Keys were headed to overtime.

QUINN SEALS THE DEAL

In overtime, the Spikes had elected to play in the field, and they brought on RHP Drake Quinn. After some tense moments, it was quickly a bases loaded situation with 2 outs. A flyout to center field won the game for the Spikes.
