FRIDAY: Penn State 7, Minnesota 3
The Nittany Lions played from behind most of the game, but they got a huge boost in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings. The go-ahead run was scored by Tayven Kelley on a 2-RBI single to center field.
W: Will Perkowski (1.0 IP, 1 SO, 0 ER, 21 pitches)
SATURDAY: Minnesota 5, Penn State 4
The Golden Gophers took the lead with two RBI singles and a sac fly in the top of the 6th. Penn State had a runner on third as the tying run when a 3-run rally in the bottom of the ninth ended with an Adam Cecere strikeout.
L: Jaden Henline (6.0 IP, 5 SO, 3 ER, 99 pitches)
SUNDAY: Minnesota 15, Penn State 11
The Nittany Lions allowed 13 runs to come through in every inning from the second to the fifth. A 3-run 8th inning was not enough as the Nittany Lions ultimately lost on a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the ninth.
L: Frankie Sanchez (3.2 IP, 1 SO, 5 ER, 72 pitches)
Player of the Weekend: 1B Joe Jaconski [5-for-13, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 21 PO, 3 DP]
Jaconski made strides this weekend on both sides of the diamond, including a home run that helped get the offense going in the series finale on Sunday. The first baseman also made diving catch after diving catch, and also did everything he could to get pivotal outs this weekend.
Pitcher of the Weekend: LHP Anthony Steele [4 IP, 3 SO, 2 ER, 1 SV]
Steele pitched a gem on Friday to secure the series-opening win, striking out 3 batters and allowing only 2 hits through 2 innings. He was thrusted into a bad situation on Sunday, adding fuel to the fire, but it was an overall good weekend for the left-hander.
Next Weekend
Penn State travels to Annapolis to take on Georgetown (neutral) on Friday, and Navy (road) on Saturday and Sunday. Friday's game will start at 4:00 PM, Saturday's game will start at 6:00 PM, and Sunday's game will start at 1:00 PM. Saturday and Sunday's games will be streamed on ESPN+.
