Recaps
FRIDAY: Penn State 8, Northwestern 4
Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first, the Nittany Lions took the lead and never looked back. The bullpen pitched a gem, allowing only 1 run through 4 innings of work. W: Travis Luensmann (5.0 IP, 4 SO, 2 ER, 85 pitches)
SATURDAY: Penn State 12, Northwestern 7
The Nittany Lions used the middle innings to propel them to a series-clinching victory. Henline pitched 4 scoreless innings, all after letting up 3 home runs in the first three. W: Jaden Henline (7.0 IP, 1 SO, 4 ER, 90 pitches)
SUNDAY: Penn State 15, Northwestern 1 (7 innings)
The Nittany Lions scored in 5 of the 7 innings in a mercy-rule win to sweep the Wildcats, all of which being crooked numbers. Joe Jaconski's grand slam capped off a stellar offensive performance in the series finale. W: Frankie Sanchez (6.0 IP, 1 SO, 1 ER, 62 pitches)
Player of the Weekend: SS Grant Norris [6-for-14, 3 HR, 5 RBI]
With the hot hitting from all around the clubhouse, it was hard to choose just one, however Norris had finally come into his own. He did so with the long ball, something that he was good at last year as he tied the team leader for the most HRs.
Pitcher of the Weekend: RHP Frankie Sanchez [6 IP, 1 SO, 1 ER]
After a tough performance out of the bullpen against Illinois last week, the only way was up for the junior righthander. Having only had 62 pitches, Sanchez was shutting down batters left and right.
